Cohesity’s Acquisition of Veritas Signals a Win for Channel Partners

Cohesity is acquiring Veritas’s data protection business. The merged entities will operate under the Cohesity brand.

This marks a significant development in the data management and security sector. It unites two leading companies to form a new dominant entity. Together, holding a value of $7 billion. This merger is ready to reshape AI-powered data security and management, offering benefits for channel partners, customers, and the industry at large.

Leveraging Combined Strengths

The combined entity aims to leverage the strengths of both companies to deliver enhanced data security, management solutions, and innovative technologies. Cohesity, known for its software aiding enterprises in data backup and protection against ransomware attacks, has joined forces with Veritas, a provider of backup and recovery applications. Together, they boast a clientele of over 10,000 customers worldwide.

This merger is expected to increase their market positioning and provide more resources for product development.

Alignment with Market Needs

This acquisition notably aligns with evolving market needs. It addresses cyber threats and complex hybrid cloud environments strategically.

The new entity plans to invest in and advance the roadmap and strategy of all Cohesity and Veritas portfolio. This includes Veritas NetBackup, NetBackup appliances, and Alta data protection offerings. They aim to deliver an integrated solution that combines the best technology from both companies.

Channel Partners

For channel partners, this acquisition presents several opportunities. Cohesity has guaranteed that the merger will be a positive development. Hence, enabling the combined channel base to sell more cloud, security, and AI products. The firm is committed to investing more in R&D and product development on these fronts. Thereby ensuring that partners, including specialists, VARs, system integrators, and hardware OEMs, will meet customer cloud and security needs more effectively.

Approval and Anticipated Closing

The transaction has been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of Cohesity and Veritas. It is expected to close by the end of 2024, pending regulatory approval. This marks the first time in recent years that direct competitors in the data protection market have decided to merge. It’s likely driven by the recognition that both possess key capabilities and customer bases that neither could fully reach on their own.

This merger signifies a strategic alignment of strengths to better serve the market’s growing needs, from improving cyber-resilience to enhancing hybrid cloud data protection. As the combined company moves forward, it will focus on innovation, customer satisfaction, and leveraging advanced technologies like AI for the next era of data security and management.
