Kerner Norland is committed to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and strives to make a positive impact on society and the environment. Through various initiatives, the company aims to create a sustainable and ethical business model while addressing key social and environmental challenges.

The National Law Conference Initiative

The National Law Conference of Sri Lanka which was held on 3rd and 4th of June 2023 highlighted the importance of economic restructuring and growth as a key focus for the country. President Ranil Wickremesinghe addressed the gathering, emphasizing the need to regain trust between the people and various sectors of the state. This trust is crucial to prevent a major crisis in the future.

During the conference, experts discussed the attractiveness of Sri Lanka as an investment destination. Investors require assurances and a fast resolution when disputes arise. Singapore’s experience in modernizing its court system, utilizing AI and implementing strict case management controls was suggested as a model for Sri Lanka to consider.

The importance of Foreign direct investment (FDI) was highlighted as a means to promote growth by, providing funds, technology, access to international business principles and opportunities for climate change technologies and infrastructure. Certainty of law and predictability are important factors for foreign investors and efficient dispute resolution with finality is essential for ease of doing business.

Privatization and restructuring were also emphasized as important for fostering growth and increasing market competition. Privatization leads to improved services, higher wages, better purchasing power and reduced complacency among workers. It was suggested as an effective strategy for the country’s overall development.

English Classes Initiative

The Faiszer Musthapha Foundation has been running a learning facility in the area of Maligawatte since November 2022. The Foundation utilizes an innovative and immersive curriculum that focuses on English Language Skills. The curriculum brings in years of hand on researching and testing.

The ultimate purpose of the project is to Develop a batch of students who will be able to converse fluently in English with the required leadership, creativity skills and to support educators and other stakeholders in testing and implementing new teaching methods.

The courses are structured at 4 levels targeting a particular age group. There are currently 513 students registered and the classes are conducted on Sundays from 1.30 pm to 5.30 pm. Each class consists of a one-hour lesson and average of 120 students per class.

The Pink Car Initiative

The Pink Car initiative is to help ensure the safety of women who access Melbourne’s night-time activities, The Salvation Army Melbourne have launched a Pink Car purchased by the Collingwood Football Club using funds provided by the Office for Women.

The Pink Car operates overnight on Fridays and Saturdays and will check in with young women to ensure that they get home safely.

We are also in the process of exploring collaboration options with TechForGood, TechForGood is a company that supports all socially conscious companies, individuals and the Australian Social Sector to access equitable, affordable and relevant technology solutions and when you purchase from them, 50% of the profit is redistributed to charities that address inequality in Australia & beyond.
